Behind the Scenes: Baymeadows Movers Joins Forces with Chipman and OMA to Clear Out Legacy Equipment from AMC Theatres

July 20, 2026

Most people walk into a movie theater thinking about the movie they're there to watch. They notice the giant screen, comfortable seats, and maybe the smell of freshly popped popcorn. What they don't see is everything going on behind the scenes to make that experience possible—or what it takes when it's time to phase out decades of hardware and make way for the future.

Recently, Baymeadows Movers had the chance to partner with Chipman Relocation & Logistics on a distinctive commercial moving project through our membership in the Office Moving Alliance (OMA). Together, we supported the removal of legacy projection equipment from several AMC Theatre locations. It was not your typical commercial move. It demanded careful planning, specialized equipment, experienced crews, and seamless coordination between reliable relocation partners.

Jobs like these are one of the reasons we love what we do. No two commercial moves are ever quite the same, and that's what keeps our work exciting.

Every Commercial Move Has a Story

Every Commercial Move Has a StoryOne of the best elements of commercial moving is the diversity.

During one week we're relocating an entire school before students come back for the new year. The next we're delivering physical therapy equipment to a new healthcare facility. Next we are inside a movie theater, meticulously dismantling and removing equipment that has entertained millions of people over the years.

This AMC project was notably memorable because it required removing large digital cinema projection systems, as well as several pieces of historic 35mm projection equipment. Walking into the projection booths felt like traveling back in time. Some of the film projectors and reels had been part of the movie-going experience long before digital projection became the standard in the industry.

For film lovers, it was fascinating.

For our crew, it was a reminder that every piece of equipment we move has its own history.

Great Projects Begin with Great Planning

Great Projects Begin with Great PlanningProjects like this do not begin when the moving truck shows up.

Long before the first projector is taken down, our team plans out logistics, scheduling, building access, equipment requirements, manpower, and safety planning.

Partnering with Chipman Relocation & Logistics, we coordinated every phase of the project to make sure each theater could be completed efficiently and safely. One of the greatest advantages of being part of the Office Moving Alliance (OMA) is having access to a nationwide network of seasoned commercial movers who uphold the same commitment to professionalism and customer service. By combining Chipman's national relocation expertise with Baymeadows Movers' local knowledge and project management experience, we were able to complete the work smoothly from start to finish.

Cinemas weren't designed with equipment removal in mind.

Projection booths tend to be tucked away on upper levels with slim passageways, tight doorways, and limited access. A few buildings have elevators, while others do not. Moving large projection systems through those spaces involves much more than simply loading them onto a dolly and wheeling toward the truck.

Every challenge must be identified before work even begins.

That's when experience makes all the difference.

It's About More Than Just Muscle

It's About More Than Just MuscleMany people assume moving heavy equipment is just about raw strength.

The truth is that commercial moving is about planning, technique, and using the right tools for the job.

Undertakings like the AMC equipment removal call for specialized dollies, rigging equipment, lift systems, protective materials, and seasoned crews who know how to safely navigate oversized equipment through tight spaces.

Each projector had to be thoughtfully disconnected, protected, maneuvered through the building, and safely loaded for transport.

Most of these systems are not only heavy—they're also extremely delicate. One accidental bump into a doorway or uneven transition could result in significant damage.

Communication and patience are every bit as important as strength.

Preserving the Building Is Equally Important

While our focus is on safely moving equipment, we're just as committed to protecting the customer's facility.

Commercial properties represent a major investment, and even minor repairs can prove disruptive and costly.

When a project is finished, our goal is for customers to remember how smoothly everything went, not the moving process itself.

Teamwork Makes the Difference

Large commercial moving projects are never a one-person job.

Every member of the crew has a role, and communication is essential from beginning to end.

One mover may be guiding equipment through a doorway while another controls the load. Someone else is watching clearances, while another team member is readying the next piece for transport.

When seasoned crews work together, there is a rhythm that develops. That's something that isn't learned overnight.

Watching our crew work together was a great example of what happens when seasoned movers share the same dedication to safety, communication, and customer service.

A Little Enjoyment Along the Way

Baymeadows Moving and Storage team having a little funEven during demanding commercial projects, it's essential to enjoy the experience.

Being employed inside movie theaters definitely had its perks.

Our crew couldn't resist slipping downstairs for a few movie snacks in between jobs on the project. Having spent the day behind the scenes where not many people ever get to go, popcorn for some reason tasted even better.

Such moments help make long workdays memorable and remind us that while we take our work seriously, we also have fun doing it.

Commercial Moving Is More Than Just Transportation

Commercial Moving Is More Than Just TransportationMost people believe moving companies just load trucks and unload them at another location.

Commercial moving is much more than that.

These projects often involve logistics planning, inventory management, warehousing, project management, scheduling, specialized equipment handling, and coordinating multiple contractors.

Every customer has different needs.

Certain businesses must relocate hundreds of employees in a single weekend.

Others need sensitive medical equipment transported without disruption.

Many projects occur overnight to limit downtime.

Others—like the AMC project—involve the careful removal of specialized equipment from unique environments.

Every relocation calls for adaptability, planning, and problem solving.

Here at Baymeadows Movers, when someone asks, "Can you help with this?" our first response is almost always, "Let's figure out how."

Experience Builds Confidence

For decades, Baymeadows Movers has proudly served Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, and we've learned that successful projects all rely on the same fundamentals:

Preparation.

Communication.

Professionalism.

Trust.

Our customers know we'll come ready, keep them informed throughout the project, treat their property with respect, and fix problems instead of causing them.

No matter if we're working inside schools, hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, government facilities, entertainment venues, or commercial campuses, our approach stays the same.

Protect the customer.

Protect the equipment.

Complete the work safely.

Leave the site better than we found it.

Preserving a Part of Movie History

Preserving a Part of Movie HistoryOne of the surprising highlights of this project was discovering some of the original 35mm projection systems that once brought countless movies to life.

Long before streaming services and digital cinema, these machines produced lasting experiences for generations of moviegoers.

Being right there with them gave our crew a genuine appreciation for how much technology has progressed over the years.

It's not every day that a moving company gets to help retire a small piece of entertainment history.

Personally, it was a moment we will never forget.
